It was a penalty filled affair that graced the Kin 1 arena in beautiful Prince George between the Cariboo Cougars and the Valley West Hawks.
The Hawks looked to take a full four points from the weekend series against the Cougars, and they did just that. Winning 5-2 on Saturday, Cougars once again let 5 goals get passed them. The Cougars starting netminder was Ryan Buchan was the one getting peppered with goals but none were his fault.
Lack of defence in their own zone and a parade to the penalty box plagued the Cougars in both games. The second game was especially nasty as the Cougars had 3 players sent to the showers early for hits to the head.
The game seemed to change a little bit halfway through the second period as head coach Tyler Brough made a goalie change after the Hawks 5th goal with 17 year old Marcus Allen going between the pipes in relief. Allen, providing stability in net, made a number of key saves for the Cougars down the stretch to keep the score respectable.
Hunter Floris then turned on the offensive jets with two goals in the third frame to make the score 5-3 for the visitors, but that was all the Cougars could muster.
The Cougars look to turn their ship around against the Vancouver North East Chiefs on September 30th and October 1st before heading back home to take on the Greater Vancouver Canadians on October 6th and 7th.
