The Cariboo Cougars are set to hit home ice for the first time this season on Saturday as they host the Valley West in a weekend series featuring the BC Major Midget League’s only two four-win teams.
With 25 goals in just four games the Cougars (4-0) are far and away the league’s most prolific offensive team through two weeks of play. Perhaps more impressive than the raw goal total is the fact 12 different Cougars have found the back of the net already this season.
Mason Richey leads the team with four goals and six points, while Daine Dubois has a team-high five assists and is also on six points.
In net both Zach Wickson and Marcus Allen each have two wins apiece and identical 1.00 goals against averages.
The Hawks, meanwhile, have also come out of the gate with a 4-0 record. They have recorded weekend sweeps over the South Island Royals and Thompson Blazers.
They are led by forward Justyn Gurney who has four goals and six assists this year and has been in on more than half of the team’s goals. Goalie Reece Klassen has yet to concede a goal in two starts.
The weekend set starts on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. and concludes on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both games are at Kin 1.
Look forward to some big announcements regarding the Telus Cup before Saturday’s home opener!
