Cougars Open 2011-2012 Season

The Cariboo Cougars open up the 2011-2012 season tonight at home hosting the Fraser Valley Bruins.

The Cats are coming off a strong finish to their exhibition schedule sweeing the Okanagan Hockey Academy last weekend outscoring OHA by a combined 18-2 over the course of the three game series.

Puckdrop for tonight's home opener is 7:15 pm at Kin 1.

Fjellstrom Named Captain

Prince George product Tanner Fjellstrom has been named Captain of this year's Cariboo Cougars. The 17 year old forward suited up for the Cougars last season, scoring 17 goals and 17 assists en route to a 2nd place finish in the BCMML. He scored a penalty shot goal in the finals series against the Giants.

Fjellstrom will have some help in the on ice leadership department, with Nathan Craft selected to wear an 'A'. The other alternate captains will be announced later this week.

Cougars Sweep OHA

A tough, rugged and physical play highlights a 3-game series between the Cougars and the Okanagan Hockey Adademy. On Friday, the Cougars won 7-1 on the back of Ei Jarvis and Tanner Fjellstrom scoring twice. David Readman was solid in net, picking up the victory.

On Saturday, the Cats were able to earn Nathan Warren his first shutout in a Cougars uniform, as he backstopped the Cats to a 6-0 win. Tanner Fjellstrom again stepped up offensively, scoring two goals and adding two assists.

The final game of the series went Sunday morning, with the Cats completing the sweep, 5-1. Fjellstrom again lit the lamp, scoring a goal and adding an assist and goaltenders David Readman and Nathan Warren split duties between the pipes.

The Cougars open their season next weekend, with a pair of games against the Fraser Valley Bruins.

 
Beesley Signs with Kings

Former Cougar goaltender Marcus Beesley has moved onto Junior A hockey by signing with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL. Beesley, formerly with the KIJHL's Nelson Leafs, spent two season with the Cougars, backstopping the team to the Finals in the 2009/2010 season. Last season with the Leafs, Beesley suited up in 35 games, going 14-19 with a 4.06 GAA and .862 SV%.

Lloyd Signs with Warriors

Cougar forward Seb Lloyd is moving on up. Lloyd signed recently with the Westside Warriors, and joined Cougar alumni Tyson Witala and Michael King on the club. After initially trying out in Penticton for the Vees, Lloyd found his way to Westside and impressed immediately.

Jeff hails from the Lower Mainland but has spent much of the past four years roaming
through Western Canada. Jeff recently moved to Prince George having spent time in
Castlegar, Terrace, Edmonton, and Saskatoon. He works as a News Reporter/Anchor for
The Wolf and 94X.

For the past five years, Jeff has performed as a studio host, play-by-play announcer, and
colour analyst for the UBC Thunderbirds Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Volleyball
programs, and also broadcast the 2007 CIS Men’s Soccer National Tournament.

Jeff spent the 2008-09 season as the play-by-play announcer for the Beaver Valley Nitehawks
of the KIJHL. Jeff has also performed spot duty for the BCHL.

When not watching hockey at the rink, Jeff is cheering on his beloved Canucks.
